As I have promised, here is short a video of Amari and Lori, the two macaques we rescued from Angkor. Both have made a remarkable recovery and are in good health, as you can see. We need to keep Amari in a small cage during the time we are unable to give her direct supervision, because she is blind. For the same reason we cannot keep her with other macaques. However she is very happy to have the company of her daughter, Lori, once again and we give them the opportunity to enjoy some time outside their enclosure when we can. After she has been outside for a while Amari sometimes gets a little concerned due to her lack of vision and we then return her to the safety of her cage.
Me and my staff have a great deal of work with our wildlife rescue, care and release programs and daily updates are not possible, but we will keep you informed of the progress of these two as we are able. Lori was in very bad shape when she arrived with us. She was totally blind and immobile and now has reasonable vision and is able to get about quite well, as you can see. Her future seems bright. Her Mother, Amari, is blind and elderly, with the problems that this brings with it. We will always do our best for her and she is contented now, but her time is probably limited. Thank you all for your interest and support, without which we could not continue with our task to crack down on the extremely cruel illegal wildlife trade and ensure that the animals we rescue receive an appropriate outcome. My very best wishes to you all. Nick

We’ve received many inquiries recently about when Amari and Lori will be placed in an enclosure together. Even our Director spoke to our nursery team this week about this subject, and he was very satisfied with their response. The nursery team does not believe Lori is strong or coordinated enough yet to be placed in a larger enclosure. At this point in time, they do not wish to risk potential further injury. We appreciate all of their fans want to see them reunited, as do we, however even our Director defers to the experts, our nursery keepers, when it comes to the care of all of our infant primates. So, for the time being, we will all just have to continue to wait!

Lori Update
Still coming along and leaps and bounds little Lori is doing well. It’s great to see the progression in her condition as she goes from moving around her enclosure at the ground level only to now climbing up and down the branches placed inside. Occasionally she still slips and falls, which is why it’s important she builds her strength and coordination in a smaller enclosure first before we consider moving her.
Amari Update
No new diagnosis updates yet. She’s been provided with parasite control and some vitamins and is still undergoing some further diagnostics. Despite this, the team is still happy with how she’s progressing and she certainly seems content as long as she’s receiving regular meals! Despite loving all of her afternoon snacks, as seen here in this video, it’s become quite evident she’s not a fan of sweet potatoes as she drops these on the ground for the Keeper’s to clean up!

Amari Update
As always, Amari is happily stuffing herself with all food presented to her! Here she is enjoying her ‘monkey breakfast’ a meal of peanuts, sweet potatoes and a bit of rice to provide extra carbohydrates and protein and encourage foraging behavior! She still has not put on weight despite a well balanced and nutritious diet and is undergoing further diagnostics. Despite this, she is still bright, more and more comfortable with her surroundings! We will keep you updated on her condition.
[/fusion_gallery]Lori Update
Lori’s tail injury is fully healed and the hair is starting to grow back. She is getting regular exercise outside of the enclosure under the close supervision of staff. Her strength and coordination continue to improve. The caretaking staff is very happy with her progress. Lori would like to pass on her thanks to her adoring fans for your continued support!

The girls are both doing really well! Lori’s cognitive function continues to improve daily and she is now communicating with the Keepers. Her tail is still healing and quite sensitive, however, the vets are happy with the progression. Amari’s voracious appetite shows no signs of diminishing and we’re starting to see her put on weight and body condition, which is a good sign. She’s very keen on inspecting anyone who approaches her enclosure, mostly checking if you’re bringing treats!

Amari & Lori FAQs
1. Lori’s eyesight. It appears to be improving. We suspect her loss of sight was associated with her head injury rather than her eyes themselves. Fingers crossed for further recovery.
2. Amari & Lori sharing enclosures or being housed next door to each other. This is not currently possible. Given Lori’s current condition she is not strong enough to be in a larger enclosure like Amari or the same style of enclosures next to her. Perhaps in the future, only time will tell.
3. Lori sharing an enclosure with other juvenile Macaques. This is also not currently possible given her condition. We do not want to risk any possible further injury or any undue psychological stress. Again, perhaps in the future, this may be possible. We will continue to assess as she progresses.
4. Visiting Amari & Lori. For the foreseeable future, both girls will remain in our nursery section which is not accessible to the public. This is to ensure they are receiving round the clock care from our dedicated nursery keeping staff. We will keep you posted if or when this changes.
Day to day they both continue to improve, grow stronger, and we are very happy with their progress thus far. Both girls are very sweet and you can see their relationship with the keepers evolving as they build trust and become familiar with them.
Don’t forget you can support their ongoing care by donating to ‘Care for Rescued Wildlife’ via the button below.

Amari’s blood samples confirmed heightened blood sugar levels and our vets are drawing up a treatment plan. She continues to eat all the food put in front of her and is gaining weight, all good signs!

Lori is also settling well, the wound on her tail healing slowly. She is moving and feeding herself on her own and gaining strength each day though she will need much more strength before she can join Amari in the larger enclosure.
For now, Lori is in a small enclosure so that she does not suffer any falls causing more damage while she heals from the many injuries to her spine and leg.
The girls are close and under constant supervision from nursery staff as they recover.
Let’s hope each day brings them a little more strength!
September 8-9, 2018 -Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center
Firstly we would sincerely like to say ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone who has donated to Amari & Lori’s care at Phnom Tamao. We truly appreciate your support.
Both girls continue to do well.
Lori continues to grow stronger every day and we continue to see small improvements in her condition daily, particularly her mobility. She is certainly a fighter!
Amari has settled in very well and is quite comfortable in her new abode. She’s got quite the appetite and we’re pleased to report is happily licking her plate clean at every meal!
Looking forward………it is highly likely that both Amari & Lori will continue to require ongoing care for the rest of their lives. It would appear as though they are unlikely to ever fully recover and as such we will continue to provide them refuge. Our goal at Wildlife Alliance is always releasing, and we are proud to say we are able to release approximately 80% of the animals that are donated to us or confiscated. However not all animals are fit for release back into the wild, due to either physical or psychological conditions, and Phnom Tamao provides those individuals with a safe place to call home. It is likely that both Amari & Lori will become permanent residents however we will be sure to keep you updated on any changes.
Thank you again for your support and also your understanding. We hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend and we’ll be back Monday with the next update!

Amari climbed the small structures in her enclosure and polished off all of hers quickly; a good sign showing she is comfortable in her new surrounds. Lori, though finding it difficult to feed herself, munched through her food with the help of her carers. We are happy with how the pair is showing good appetites! Hopefully, this will add to their strength, though they still have a long road to recovery.
September 6, 2018 -Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center
Our most recent update: Amari is settling into her new home well and a treatment plan for her is being assessed. Her baby, Lori, is still under close supervision from nursery staff to ensure she does not hurt herself any further. Both have healthy appetites however, at this stage, it is too early to tell if Lori will be able to fully recover from her spinal injuries and nerve damage. Our vets have been giving them the best care they can from the moment they arrived at Phnom Tamao.
September 5, 2018
The Wildlife Rapid Rescue Team (WRRT) traveled to the temples of Angkor to rescue a female macaque and her infant, known as Amari and Lori.
The monkeys were donated to the team by a concerned individual who had them under his care after noticing the pair’s poor health and removing them from the forest to care for them.
The WRRT have successfully taken the monkeys to Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center, where they will be assessed and treated by our veterinary staff. The youngster, Lori, is being provided treatment and is in critical condition. Amari is doing well and has already eaten up the fruits and vegetables provided in her new enclosure. They will remain under 24 hour supervision by our nursery staff.
If you would like to donate towards Amari and Lori’s care, please make a donation to “Care for Rescued Wildlife” and mention the Angkor monkeys in the comments.
A lot of people love Amari and Lori.
I will miss both mommy amari and baby Lori please i would love updates on them or leave me a place i can look for there updates.
God Bless and thank you for helping
These monkeys have been through so much….especially the baby Lori. She has has multiple head wounds, and it is a miracle she survived. She is a real fighter! PLEASE keep us updated as much as possible. If you could post some photos or video it would be great. These monkeys are so loved, even by people thousands of miles away. Thank you so much for helping them!
if you cant afford to take care of these monkeys, put them to sleep. Dont ask for donations!
Please watch your language.. no need to be rude
I cannot imagine someone so desperate for atten have no life to come and harass a rescue. You were spot on Thyy are rude and pathetic.
Babs McAfee The videographers and Vet that cared for Amari and Lori in the interim put up with this on a daily basis I hope they delete his ugly comment it does not belong here.
Why so mean?☮️
If you dont love monkeys,or dont like to give money for care, only take your way out and close the door, and let others persons love and help monkeys.
Are you saying that if some of the out there can’t afford to send money that they shouldn’t be allowed to see what progress Amari and Lori are making?
When are you snowflakes going to understand that people can do and say what they want? You don’t pay their electricity, Internet, or phone bill, when you pay mine, you can dictate to me what I can watch or say. Isn’t it enough for you that many people in Cambodia can’t feed their children but people like you were demanding them to buy milk, food, blankets, and vet bills?
Many of you that claim that you love and care so much about the monkeys but threaten to pay someone to poison, maim, beat, or throw some monkeys out in front of traffic. Why? Because they are acting like monkeys. Monkeys kidnap, monkeys will abuse other monkeys, they care for their infants but once they are not acting up to human standards there are some that want a baby removed from their mothers. Some claim that the mother never wanted that baby to begin with. They can’t comprehend or relate to a wanted or unwanted pregnancy. The mother monkeys should know when to wean and don’t need interference from the videographers to give this one milk supplement.
Please people if you truly love them and care about their welfare. Watch and just leave them alone. They have been on this earth without your help for centuries and will probably be here after we’ve died.
Love to know how both doing
I notice listed Lori as in critical condition. So sad. I still believe less than honorable vos are directly and indirectly responsible. The gov’t needs to set up a vetting process of the vos to keep the bad ones out.
Really worried for the poor baby.
Amari not so much.
Me. McAfee. With all due respect, you are talking about a third world country that does not have the funds to take care of their own adults and children. Their government does not function like the US, UK, Canada, EU countries, China, Japan, etc. I am all for animal rights however human rights should always take precedence. The amount of energy, time, and monies being spent on 2 monkeys (keep in mind they are considered equal to rodents due to their uncontrollable numbers and amount of destruction, seriously look at what the temple grounds have turned into in the past year) I fear is for nothing. I hope I am wrong however look through this website and blog. There are not a lot of updates on any of the animals that have been rescued and sent there. The description given on the main webpage states this facility specializes in endangered and exotic animals, which Amari and Lori are neither. I just do not want to see a lot of upset and jaded people react and post threats to this place if the decision is made to euthanize or no updates are provided. Let’s be honest, reading through the comments on YouTube, there are a lot of angry people there that have no problem disrespecting, slandering, or threatening anyone (young, old, male, female, etc.). I have been following these monkeys for years and I truly hope for the best however I keep reminding myself of the reality of the situation, where this is occurring, and who it is occurring to [2 monkeys in an exotic/endangered animal rescue facilty that operates on donations and government funds in a 3rd world country – that eats monkeys (remember Brutus)]. I do not mean to offend anyone by these remarks and I apologize in advance if I have. Just being realistic. Good luck Lori and Amari, Jack, Jill, Brutus Jr. and Polly miss you.
Please go research the. That type of monkey is definitely on the endangered list internationally. This is due to their use as lab research animals being exported by the thousands.
@ Anida Westbrook – alas, the Long-tailed Macaque (also called the ‘crab-eating macaque’) is listed on the IUCN list as ‘least concern’ (LC) [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crab-eating_macaque] – they are diminishing in parts of Cambodia and across SE Asia due to deforestation, but across the introduced parts of their range, the animals are growing in numbers and there are plans to come up with ways to limit their fertility. They are a terribly invasive species where they’ve been introduced. YES, monitoring is needed by they are by no means endangered at this time.
Humans control the earth…therefore, it’s our DUTY to care for the animals. If you watch the macaques at Anghor Wat, anyone would recognize that they are loving groups, who love their families, their children and want to live just like humans. Their habitats have diminished. The earth has many children…not just humans! We must care for them! How can anyone say they are rodents?? Thank you Wildlife Alliance for your care of Amari, Lola and Lori. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. God bless Cambodia for figuring out a way that man can live with animals…and they can thrive!
Babs McCaffee,
What a sad day when we others in our Youtube group must get on here to champion our beloved videographers reputations! But i do it GLADLY. The lies and paranoia I can understand with both a mental health background as well as an understanding that our Own species of primate is known to be less than noble at times. But, IF we are to continue to evolve and thrive, this is what we must do. Specifically, to stand against hate mongering toward those who deserve to be protected AND respected. In the vein of making the world a better place…like this Organization does daily – I WILL take the time to protect those who need it – our photographers with hearts of platinum gold who day after day sit in the Temples a world away creating joy for us on the way WAY other side of the Earth. I think it will be obvious to anyone who reads your hate-speak in the midst of ALL THIS GRATITUDE will see that you are indeed, not to be given credence to your silly accusations.
My reply on Tater’s comment was meant for you but it went into his comment. Please read it. Thank you
I am so grateful to you all and to Sochhun Ley and the few good guys for all the love and the respect for life they have shown. Please disregard haters here and know millions more love this pair. Thank you for all of your great, quick, up to the moment information you have sent us. Send our love too to Nick Marx! Love!
Yay!! Thank you so much for taking Amari and Lori. They’ve had a hard time and little Lori has been thru many accidents. Looking forward to updates on them.
Congratulations to all involved, now they will have a place to finish their days. Queen Amari and Princess Lori may God bless them.
And the real men who did everything to save both, many blessings. The amber group will not be the same without them, tears! From Brazil
Well actually the amber group will be exactly the same without them considering Amari and Lori are from AMARIS troop , she was the alpha queen , seperate from ambers group :p I hope they both pull thru and can be released back to their troupe idk what they will become without their alpha ): I hate dolly ):
Congratulations to all involved, now they will have a place to finish their days. Queen Amari and Princess Lori may God bless them.

The Ankgor Monkeys, Amari and Lori were actually being taken care of by the people who recorded them for public viewing at Youtube. The mother, who was fast losing her eyesight, didn’t take good care of her baby well over the last few months and she almost died a few times. They recently fell from a height of about 18 feet, Amari grabbed Lori to escape from an aggressive male monkey from another troop. Lori became unconscious. These people have fed Lori who was previously bitten by the male monkey of another troop and then her tail was ran over by a bike and much more happened to this little monkey Lori. They helped her and the reason they are now here with you is because they saved them. They did the best they could. So to say you rescued them from these people, ahh,,, well sure this is a much much better place. But I give them some credit for removing them from a deadly scenario. I think you will find most of us watchers of this troop, whom Amari was queen, will feel this way. Thanks for caring for them!
lynn bernasky Respectfully sayin that’s not what the write up said. IN part they say “they traveled to the temples of Angkor to rescue a female macaque and her infant, Rescue to them is to help a species in need of care. Sochhun Ley called them Which Amari and Lori needed more care than what our caring people of Angkor Wat could provide them. Yes they deserve alot of credit and especially for knowing that they could not this time provide the adequate care they needed and then made a plea to this most kind Organization. That speaks volume. God Bless!
I’m glad that Sochhun called, I and other had suggested such. God bless you too. I love that little Lori, she’s such a kind monkey – strange thing to say, but she is.
Thank you so much for giving us a glimmer of hope for Amari and Lori. As a long time follower of this pair on Youtube, they’ve become near and dear to my heart; and it’s been so difficult watching the misfortune they have encountered over the last few months. I adore baby Lori, she is such an inspiration the way she just ‘keeps going’ no matter what. Watching Amari with those huge carrots and all the fresh vegetables, Amari probably thinks she’s hit the lottery! My prayers to all those dedicated in helping these animals; and continued prayers for Amari and Lori. Please do keep us informed either way.
Haha you said it, Robin! The hit the lottery of life with this place. I’m so happy for our Queens!
lynne bernasky…REALLY? This is not YouTube so please be respectful! This place did rescue Amari and Lori and Lori should’ve been taken here in 1st place when she got hit in the head. The sanctuary will give them real vet care so just stop with all the drama!!
It’s okay, sweetie, I know everyone’s nerves are raw, we are all hurting, and there will be misunderstandings, but if you go back and read Lynne’s post again, she didn’t say anything bad. Big hug from me! We all need hugs today!
Quarky Chick-I contacted the sanctuary yesterday via email. They were very nice to answer me. They said Lori was in critical condition, but had shown some improvements since arriving. Of course they are too busy for daily updates, but said any updates they posted would be on their Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/PTWRC/
Their email was very nice and gave me a short history of the Alliance. They are wonderful folks. In case you don’t see this I will find an old post and send to you that way.
Michelle P.
I ADORE Amari and Lori. Don’t be fooled- this is a Queen & her princess, a future queen. Lori is the last daughter of Amari and in spite of a traumatic brain injury last May 4th, she has re-gained her cognitive skills and compensated for a neurolocally weakened set of limbs except for her left hand. She has has many injuries since May, I’m sure her compromised physical state makes her a target. We’ve all seen her mother, Amari weaken very fast. Finally she lost her eyesight. She was attacked by a rival troop because she had lost her own and wandered into their zone. Thousands of people have followed these monkeys on YouTube. We are all emotionally at odds today- fearing never to hear about them again, yet thrilled the camara guys at Angkor Wat reached out to you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this update!
AMEN!
Very well said Lora M. I hope one day we can call Lori, Queen Lori!
Lora, Thank you for your wonderful post! I have watched today’s videos and cried my heart out.
I sincerely hope they keep us posted on their health and just videos to visit with them for a little bit. I bet
they also have a youtube channel for us to follow. I’m sure a Webcam would be asking too much!
I’m excited for both of the girls to be able to be treated. Thanks to everyone involved~ JeanneB in Tennessee
Many thanks to all at Wildlife Alliance for what you are doing for Amari and Lori and all the other animals in your care.
Thank you for referencing your donations page and what you will be doing.
I will be glad to share your link through my fb page
With much gratitude
Niniane
Thank you all for taking care of these 2. Queen Amari and Lori are very special and loved by many. You’ll see when you get to know them! Thanks again and God bless you all!
Oh my god so happy. I have watched these two forever and I love them.Wishing a sanctuary would take them!!!Love You Queen Amari and baby Lori get well.Keep us posted.?????
Thank you for taking care of Lori and Amari. The vos who rescued them love them very much as do people around the world. The vos did all they could, but knew they needed more comprehensive care which is why they contacted numerous sources trying to get the mom and daughter help. Its heartbreaking and joyous at the same time. Please do everything you can to help them. And please keep us updated on their treatment and progress.
Thank you from USA
I love them. Please keep us inform. Loves from Turkey
Thank you for accepting Queen Amari and her warrior Princess Lori. This pair is loved and adored. Honestly, I believe watching them saved me a few months ago. Please give them your best…. and thank you to the brave people who were caring for them before you arrived.
Wow. That’s a powerful post. Bless you!
Thank you so much for rescuing this charismatic Matriarch, Amari, and her precious little princes Lori. I, as well as thousands of YouTube viewers have become very attached to this pair which we hold near and dear to our heart. The attention, compassion and love shown by the Vet, and the VO’s at Angkor for Amari and Lori has been compelling and unsurpassed. They went over and above in so many ways to attend to their needs and because of this, we are all very grateful to them. Nevertheless, I am very appreciative that your organization has accepted this extraordinary pair into your sanctuary and that you will give them the medical attention they so desperately need. I look forward to updates on how they are doing.
These two macaques have been heavily exploited by a group of amateur YouTube “videographers” for the last several months. They have attracted something of a dedicated following who, as you may have gauged from previous comments, have unfortunately anthropomorphized them into “characters” rather than wild animals, often referring to them as “pets” or “royalty” and encouraging the “videographers” to interfere with them on an almost daily basis. I simply thought that your organization should be aware of the particular “interest” in these monkeys, and be prepared for any harassment you might receive from their “fan club”, particularly if the unfortunate decision must made to euthanize one or both of them (particularly the infant “Lori”)
Thank you.
I am sure they will do what’s best. Are you willing to accept it if they decide no to kill Amari or Lori? Because we all know that for every 20 of us advocating for the monkeys; there is one nasty troll that comes along that hates them demanding their death. I wouldn’t count Lori out yet. I think if they ‘wake her up’ from all that drowsy medication she is on, get her on a therapy routine, she might just bounce back fine. But again, another troll demanding the death of Lori.
Robin;
This is an embarrassment! It’s a unique opportunity, though, for the world to see what EXACTLY the Wildlifealliance.org is up against in its fight against poaching and other atrocities they are missioned to remedy!
Their ignorance speaks volumes, and again, as i have been saying in our channels, it’s NOT ok to ignore them. It’s necessary to say how utterly UNACCEPTABLE such hate-speak is and then DO SOMETHING. My “something” is to reach out to the vo’s – in the Khmer language via google translate – and ask them to block comments wishing harm on the monkeys. By doing nothing we make it even harder for the Wildlifealliance.org to do their job. And i want them to do their job. For my children, grandchildren and on and on.
We are stronger.
It is not that we viewers want them exploited in no shape or form, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know these macaques are wild animals! Give your head a shake! Like you (obviously) watch and become “fans” of wild animals of all kinds. For you to assume that us “fans” will harass or send “harassing” notes to the wildlife alliance is absurd, where do you have the gumption to make such stupid assumptions??? If us “fans” watched these monkeys for months/years, the best you could have done was give us the benefit of the doubt and SEE that we (thousands if not millions from all over the world) have become fond and grew to love and care for LORI and Amari, just as we would have with any other injured animal. So with that being said, why the hell would it upset us “fans/followers” on the treatment if these two macaques? If it weren’t for us thousands of followers, would AMARI and Lori be where they are now? I highly doubt it! They’d be dead by now. Whatever treatment they get by this “God sent” group of people at the wildlife centre is hell of a lot better that what’s at Angkor Watt, far better,so wake up and smell the roses! Why be so judgemental of people like myself who have watched these macques for years. I speak for thousands of fans or followers or what ever you want to call us, we are so GRATEFUL and THANKFUL they are being cared for and medically treated.
I am crying today over this lovely baby Princess Lori and Amari who really was Queen of the Jungle. These two have a fan following of thousands all over the world. Lori came back from severe head trauma in May back to climbing trees and being an adorable sweet monkey that she is. Since then numerous events have happened, many unexplainable, but she survived. Please care for this baby and her mom. Thank you for making the drive to get them. The world is watching now.
Yes !! The World is watching… Thank you to every single person who loved , cared for, did their very best with what they had , to help Lori & Amari.. May God keep all safe & blessed . Although I find I am relived that they will be looked after in a safer place , I am sad that I will not see them everyday. In my heart I know it is best this way.
Eileen Miller I’m sad too that I will not see them everyday! But Sochhun Ley from Angkor Wat did the right thing by contacting this most kind Organization so they could get the help they needed. It must have been hard for Sochhun to sign the release papers for these monkeys. He loved both them so much. I’m with you, ” In my heart I know it is best this way.”
Since the world is watching and we’ve all been asking them to be rescued, it would be great. If we could make donations to the group taking them in. Rescue groups in the US sometimes have trouble because the care often outweighs budgets and donations. I’m sure they’d be thrilled if we could all donate what we can. There are links for donating and we just have to put their names on it….
Glad to see these two here but they and the rest of the monkeys in that area have been exploited by a group of locals taking video and posting on YouTube just to make money.
Amari and Lori were removed from the park and were in the “care” of a “vet” in which they were constantly being filmed by multiple VO’s. They allowed Lori to fall off a table numerous times and fall all over herself repeatably hitting her already traumatized brain, also they pumped both of them full of who knows what as seen both being doped up and glassy eyed.
The exploitation needs to be stopped by this group of people that only care about money, not the well being of these animals.
Thanks for taking care of these two, wish they got here sooner and not have been subjected to torture by people that only care about money. I hope the people involved are arrested and charged so they cease the behavior that harms all of these animals.
It was Sochhun Ley from Angkor Wat that contacted this Organization for help for Amari and Lori. Please there is no need to for such a comment to this Organization when it was the caring VO’s that contacted them. Thank You!
Jon, I have to tell you that you’re wrong. Watching the character that baby Lori grew into, the kindness that she displayed, despite the fact that she was so hurt all the time, made me a better person. When I didn’t want to live with all the disabilities that I have, I watched that little girl, go through it time and time again and come out the other side – still a kind monkey to the babies. She is an exceptional monkey, and we would not have known her, if it wasn’t for the videos and the VO’s. So Jon, i’m sorry but you’re wrong about the Vo’s on this one. If it weren’t for them, we would’ve never known Lori .
If you truly want to believe what you are saying that’s fine, but how many videos showed Lori falling all over herself hitting her head on concrete, falling off that table, rolling around in her excrement. All while these “caring VO’s’ were mocking and laughing at her. There was no attempt to put Lori in a padded box, cage or put padding on the floor. They kept her up and moving just for video views to make money.
How many times have they videotaped feeding the monkeys in the road with cars and mopeds driving by? Then the next video is “million tear baby run hit by car”
That “vet” is a quack, nobody that has even the basics of medical care would dare not to wear gloves, use the same needle over and over, let a patient with obvious brain trauma be able to hurt themselves further and have cameras in their face 24 hours a day. The “vet” didn’t even know to put whatever the crushed pills were in the syringe and put the plunger back in, nor actually measure a correct dose.
Maybe Sochhun actually cares for them but he obviously had no problem with all the VO’s that were at their batcave house harassing Lori and Amari the entire time they had them trapped.
I don’t know what world you live in but people that care do not put others in danger just so they can profit financially.
Thank you so much for caring for Amari and Lori!!! As you can see..they are famous!!
Please keep us updated on their progress!! Lots of prayers being said for this pair ❤️.
I’m a veterinarian in the US. I’ve been watching these monkeys for the past 2-3 years, and have become personally invested in their lives. I want to personally thank you for intervening on their behalf. From Lori’s history and observation, I don’t think her prognosis is good, however, it’s reassuring to know you’ll make the appropriate decisions after your assessments. I wish there were more people like all of you, in this world. True compassion and caring are fast becoming a thing of the past, I fear. I’ll be checking in from time to time to see how they’re doing. Thank you and take care…
I have cried many tears today, because I will miss these macaques, Amari and daughter Lori, so much. I have watched them and their troopmates for a couple of years now, so I saw Amari every day, then Lori too when she was born. Amari was a tough, but fair, alpha female, and Lori was so much like her mom, fearless, and independent, from when she first started walking. Her playmates loved her, and she loved them. Amari was always quick to defend her females, and also quick to treat their wounds, and was never cruel. I am really going to miss seeing her and Lori every day. I hope their health improves, and I hope they are happy. Give them a nanner (banana) from me!
Jerome Walker checkin in here. Great job by all involved. Were happy to see the results of many peoples efforts in helping these two monkeys live.
Brasil-BR
Please do not give up on Lori the baby. She has an iron will to live. I personally believe the majority of accidents were anything but an accident. Give her a chance.
I will be forever grateful to Mr. Sochhun for naming Lori after me. I will miss seeing them daily. I love you little Lori and your Mami Amari!
Thank you all for taking these two beautiful creatures in, they are well loved by so many. Amari will always be Queen in my heart and Lori will be Princess forever. Prayers to both that they can live a life of happiness.
Thank you for taking in both Amari and Lori. They are adored by many throughout the world. I’m at odds with what the videographers do by filming the various monkey troupes as I know it disrupts their natural behavior. However, had I not happened upon these videos, I would never have gained the appreciation I now have for the long-tailed macaques (common) and the pigtails (considered vulnerable). I am hoping that you’ll give updates as to the status of both Amari and Lori, even if it’s not the news I’m hoping for. My gut is telling me that they are at the end of their days, but I’d rather have the truth with an explanation of the the damage that has been done than to never hear about them again. I have a feeling that there are many who would appreciate the closure if that is the outcome. Regardless of the outcome, I plan on donating to your organization. I see that you sell sponsorships of various animals. Maybe you could put Amari and Lori in that list. I have a feeling you’d see an increase in your donations. Namaste.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This comes from the bottom of my heart as I’m sure others as well. These two macaques have been through so much. Little Lori has got to be one of the most determined of champions ever with her will to live! Just when I thought at various times her end was imminent she surprised us all with her resilience and fight to carry on. As you can tell, there are many many people that love her and have watched her daily life with anticipation and excitement. I pray now that she and Amari will be able to continue their life adventures whether that be there with you or released back to their troupe healthy and happy! To all the VO’s at Angkor Wat, you are wonderful. All of your love for theses monkeys along with filming there lives have brought us such joy. As for me, you have taught me so much about these amazing animals and for that I can’t thank you enough! Please, please continue your great work so our joy and love for these monkeys can continue. Blessings to all from Wisconsin U.S.A.
I made a donation and will try to donate more asap. Thank you for taking in Queen Amari and Princess Lori. They are loved by thousands of people from all over. Bless you all! Much love – Sam
How is Amari and Lori this morning? Did they get there safely?
Yes they got there safely. They said Lori was Critical and amari eats a lot.
Thank you all who helped Amari and Lori. Desperation had set in and I fear one or both would have died. I’m sure everyone feels a bit better that they are getting help.
Much love and gratitude to all. Thank you!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING QUEEN AMARI AND SWEET PRINCESS BABY LORI. THEY ARE SO VERY SPECIAL AND JUST NEED LOVE AND CARE. PLEASE DON’T SEPARATE THEM. LOVE THEM AND GIVE THEM ALL THE CARE THEY NEED PLEASE. PRECIOUS BABY LORI IS SO STRONG AND A FIGHTER WITH SUCH A STRONG WILL TO LIVE. BE PATIENT WITH HER AND SHE WILL SURPRISE YOU BEYOND ALL EXPECTATIONS. EVEN THOUGH AMARI AND LORI ARE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD THEY HAVE BECOME SUCH A SPECIAL PART OF ME AND HOLD A STRONG PLACE IN MY HEART. I PRAY YOU WILL GIVE US UPDATES OFTEN ON THESE TWO SPECIAL LIVES. BE VERY HAPPY DEAR QUEEN AMARI AND MY PRECIOUS SWEET PRINCESS BABY LORI. YOU ARE VERY LOVED.
I will be donating to help with Amari and Lori’s care and treatment.. please keep us updated..thank you
Thank you for taking in Amari and Lori. They have folks who love them all over the world! Please keep us updated.
Again thanks for all you do or wildlife!
Also, those who love Lori & Amari and all wildlife should consider giving a donation to this Wildlife Alliance. They have a donation tab on this site and it is all very easy. Our money could help take care of our two loves, Amari & Lori. Bless them and all the folks at Angkor and here who took and are taking care of them.
Thank you so much and please keep us updated on their health, very worried all they way from Austin, Texas. They are being prayed for. Love you Lori and Amari.
Just like to point out that Lori is not an infant. She was born around December 14, 2017 according to the videos on YouTube. That makes her almost nine months old in 10 days. She has her teeth and is more than capable of living on her own. As for her mother I don’t know what’s wrong with her. She is the only skinny adult monkey among all of the other overweight monkeys. She could be diabetic which would account for decreased vision. However she is mobile and clearly eating that is given to her. I guess the vets at the wildlife center can do a better diagnosis. I’ll have to give the VO’s and the local vet some credit for taking action to help these wild monkeys. They probably would have died prematurely without the help. My only question now is why didn’t they pick up the monkey with the leg half torn off?
That makes her an infant 9 months old is an infant in macaca fascicularis
Thank you for rescuing Lori & Amari. I’m so happy . Bless you
I want to thank your rescue center for taking these 2 very loved monkey’s!!The Vo’s did what they could with out having the training to take care of such injuries as Lori’s and Amari’s illness! I have shed tear’s over this sweet gentle baby over the time since her birth til now! I have even prayerd for her safety and her healing! I never thought I would be praying for a couple of animal’s I have never seen in person but these 2 are so special! It has been a joy to be able to watch baby Lori as she grew and cheerfully lived her very trying short life so far! I pray she can get well enough to at least be able to live out her day’s eating her favorite Lotus seed’s and being groomed and cuddled for many year’s to come!
Please do update all of us regularly who love her and Amari the fearless Queen with video’s and picture’s!
Bless all of you who work to rescue animal’s like these two and take care of them!
Put both of them to sleep Amari is sick and to old you can tell shes been hurting for so long. Lori is brain dead for sure put her to sleep shes been thru so much already stop making her suffer and put her to sleep!!!
How would you feell if someone made that decision for you? Lori is a very resilient baby. She has survived so much and the only reason that the VO’s brought her back to her mother, is because she cried for her every day. Now the Lord has created a perfect existence for her with her mother. I was praying for this ever since Lori was sent back to the troop. Please have faith !
I am so happy to see these monkeys can be taken care of by professionals who have their best interests at heart rather than exploited on YouTube, given poor diet, and questionable medical treatment. I hope if they live, they do so peacefully and with minimal human intervention. And if they are suffering, it will end promptly. Thank you for stepping in.
To those of you that are blaming the videographers for these monkeys problems please remember they had no choice Amari was wandering around in the streets with Lori following or in tow. One of those videographers was the person who called this organization and one of my personal friends. So please just stop this ridiculousness now. This is a place of hope and help this is not YouTube. Please donate to help this organization. Please copy and paste the link to this story so people me make donations.
And please stop this bickering and name-calling it is embarrassing and uncalled for.
I have been following these two monkeys sense Sochhun ley started the hole Angkor Wat wildlife videography phenomena. That’s been perhaps for years now? At any rate we all have a lot invested in these animals and want to see them taking care of in the best way possible. Blaming the videographer does absolutely nothing to help the situation. This sort of thing happens daily around the world with non-human primates then without these videographers there would be nobody here to donate and help these animals. Your donations will help these two monkeys as well as countless other animals that are being cured for by this Wildlife Alliance organization.

100% agree!! This isnt youtube. Stop being rude about them being cared about. They might be “wild aminals” but they deserve a chance too when possible. I think lori will be ok with time. It hasnt been that long. The brain needs time to heal. She was already doing better. Not perfect, but better then the first few days. I think amari is diabetic and thats why she eats and drinks alot but is skinny. And shes old of course.
Please take good care of sweet Lori – I’ve fallen in love with the little one for the past many months and am so sad for her. Please keep Amari near Lori.
Please DONATE for Lori and Amari to Wildlife Alliance.
I am so relieved that Lori and Amari were transferred to your sanctuary. Did they do well during the trip? Lori is the bravest, most tenacious little warrior. She loves life. Please help her to recover her sparkling spirit.
Amari and (especially) Lori were injected with multiple drugs. Please give Lori time to come out of her drugged condition, before her prognosis is made.
Jeanne Peters, thank you for your submission in the amount of $50.00 to Wildlife Alliance, Inc.. A confirmation email will be sent.
Jeanne Peters Great comment and Yes I will!
Jeanne Peters Adding Great comment on the donation not on she was injected with multiple drugs for we don’t know that.
Hello Sanctuary Vets and Staff,
Thank you for efforts to save Amari and Lori. I previously mentioned that Lori received BID injections of 2 to 4 different medications in the 3 days prior to her transfer to your facility. We don’t know, but the Vos can contact the gentleman for help identifying the drug. Hopefully; IV fluid will help flush her body. Please give Lori time…. she is a truly amazing and resilient little monkey. She loves life. I hope so much you can help her thrive again

Hello Diane,
We all saw a man inject Lori with medications twice daily for 3 days. All veterinarians would want to get a history on recent meds. I attempted to alert them and ask the vets to give Lori extra time for IV fluids to flush her little body. I hope she can fight to live a better life.

Hello Jean Try not to worry, I’m sure Sochhun and the Vet at Angkor Wat gave the Rescue team all the information they need. After call Sochhun is the one that called The Rescue Centre when they realized Lori needs much more than they could provide. It’s kind of like going from a Small Town Hospital to a Big City Hospital where they are more equipped and more knowledgeable.on what is best for Lori. #PrayersForAmariand Lori
Thank you!!! Oklahoma USA
Finally, I found you, Amari and Lori and I see you have arrived safely at the Rescue Center. I will love you and follow you both until my last breath. Stay strong sweet girls!
My heart filled thanks to the Phnom Tamoa Wildlife Rescue Alliances for taking Queen Amarillo and baby Lori into your care. You have been sent blessings from hundreds and hundreds of people…. May you all receive your blessing 10 fold.
Thanks for helping. I’m hopingmore people will donate to help. I did what I could at the time, but hope to help more in the future. What i hope and wish for is these monkeys will be nurse back to health. I understand there is a very small chance that AMARI will get her sight back, but what about Lori? Will she be returned to her family if she gets well? I understand if she has a permanent impairment then maybe not. But if it is possible that’s what I would like. Not to be able to see her grow because they are a FAMILY. I cried knowing I’d never see these to again. Before this I wanted to travel there and actually meet this troop, probably still will. All I want is what’s best for them. Even if it’s putting them down but please PLEASE, before doing that know Lori is a fighter and came back from other injuries no one thought she could come back from. Please give her that chance! Thanks Again. SANDRA
Much love and gratitude for saving these monkeys please keep us informed how they are doing thank you
It’s a new day and I hope little Lori is still amongst the living. I realise she’s being treated and assessed, that’s the important thing. There’s one thing for sure…None of this has affected Amari’s appetite! I just want to thank you, again, for all that you do. If Lori has any viable chance at life, I know you’ll give it to her. She’s on the brink of death and it’s comforting to know she’s being treated with compassion and expertise. Should she somehow survive this, I will be sponsoring her as well as her mother, Amari. I appreciate your updating those of us who love and adore Lori and Amari. I’ll check in a bit later for any new updates.
Lindsey,
So good to know there is a compassionate vet among us, as well! It didn’t seem real until I saw their video. I cried as if she were mine. Crying now in fact! It was the words written in the video that blew my mind. Spinal and nerve damage, spasms all have a bad prognosis. When they said they were going to help her manage her pain, I really lost it! I felt selfish in that moment.
She’s never been as injured before and although I remind myself of her resilience, and recall how Milto, who’s leg was virtually severed, survived and thrived. I find myself arguing in my head, “that’s no broken leg! It’s her old TBI that makes it look crazy!” I guess it’s the ONLY thing I can allow myself some denial….With the pain as well I’m in some denial thinking that if there IS spinal and nerve damage she’s lost feeling. But of course that condemns her to be humanely euthanized. So I flip to: “well, we HAVE seen intended movement! Just, poor motor control”…and that of course reminds me then, that pain is likely felt. Every few hours I wonder if she’s still with us, knowing I’m brutally selfish. I found a website with the Milto controversy when I wanted to solidify my beliefs about human intervention – animal-ethics.org. Only if they are endangered OR pose a health threat to other animals or people. Lori’s original injury was inflicted by a human so it was obvious to me I supported intervention. I shared the site with others hoping to all come to some agreement. But today, knowing about wildlifealliance and their willingness to value the lives of what the ridiculous in our hive called “culteral vermin”, I think EVERY life is precious. The very existence of the Alliance confirms that. Those who sit comfortably at their computers in the west who arrogantly “educate” us silly bleeding hearts by saying the people of Cambodia consider macaques “vermin”….are racists at worst, blind idiots at best. To watch how these YouTube video folks loved on Amari, Lori (baby Alex, rescued from death-by-starvation at the hands of a kindnapper; Milto, Red who passed, Rose the little pigtail …and on and on) will know DEFINITIVELY that it is OTHERWISE.
If Lori only knew how many people’s lives she brightened every day! Amari too! But I think this pair did more for thousands of us spread across the world, than the littlest princess and her Regal mother could ever know.
I think I’m venting and again a bit selfish when it’s clear you are going through feeling as well! Once I get to writing, I tend to go on…..?!
Hope you continue to contribute to the channels! Many of us value your knowledge and wish to learn.
Regards,
Lora M
