As I have promised, here is short a video of Amari and Lori, the two macaques we rescued from Angkor. Both have made a remarkable recovery and are in good health, as you can see. We need to keep Amari in a small cage during the time we are unable to give her direct supervision, because she is blind. For the same reason we cannot keep her with other macaques. However she is very happy to have the company of her daughter, Lori, once again and we give them the opportunity to enjoy some time outside their enclosure when we can. After she has been outside for a while Amari sometimes gets a little concerned due to her lack of vision and we then return her to the safety of her cage.
Me and my staff have a great deal of work with our wildlife rescue, care and release programs and daily updates are not possible, but we will keep you informed of the progress of these two as we are able. Lori was in very bad shape when she arrived with us. She was totally blind and immobile and now has reasonable vision and is able to get about quite well, as you can see. Her future seems bright. Her Mother, Amari, is blind and elderly, with the problems that this brings with it. We will always do our best for her and she is contented now, but her time is probably limited. Thank you all for your interest and support, without which we could not continue with our task to crack down on the extremely cruel illegal wildlife trade and ensure that the animals we rescue receive an appropriate outcome. My very best wishes to you all. Nick

We’ve received many inquiries recently about when Amari and Lori will be placed in an enclosure together. Even our Director spoke to our nursery team this week about this subject, and he was very satisfied with their response. The nursery team does not believe Lori is strong or coordinated enough yet to be placed in a larger enclosure. At this point in time, they do not wish to risk potential further injury. We appreciate all of their fans want to see them reunited, as do we, however even our Director defers to the experts, our nursery keepers, when it comes to the care of all of our infant primates. So, for the time being, we will all just have to continue to wait!

Lori Update
Still coming along and leaps and bounds little Lori is doing well. It’s great to see the progression in her condition as she goes from moving around her enclosure at the ground level only to now climbing up and down the branches placed inside. Occasionally she still slips and falls, which is why it’s important she builds her strength and coordination in a smaller enclosure first before we consider moving her.
Amari Update
No new diagnosis updates yet. She’s been provided with parasite control and some vitamins and is still undergoing some further diagnostics. Despite this, the team is still happy with how she’s progressing and she certainly seems content as long as she’s receiving regular meals! Despite loving all of her afternoon snacks, as seen here in this video, it’s become quite evident she’s not a fan of sweet potatoes as she drops these on the ground for the Keeper’s to clean up!

Amari Update
As always, Amari is happily stuffing herself with all food presented to her! Here she is enjoying her ‘monkey breakfast’ a meal of peanuts, sweet potatoes and a bit of rice to provide extra carbohydrates and protein and encourage foraging behavior! She still has not put on weight despite a well balanced and nutritious diet and is undergoing further diagnostics. Despite this, she is still bright, more and more comfortable with her surroundings! We will keep you updated on her condition.
[/fusion_gallery]Lori Update
Lori’s tail injury is fully healed and the hair is starting to grow back. She is getting regular exercise outside of the enclosure under the close supervision of staff. Her strength and coordination continue to improve. The caretaking staff is very happy with her progress. Lori would like to pass on her thanks to her adoring fans for your continued support!

The girls are both doing really well! Lori’s cognitive function continues to improve daily and she is now communicating with the Keepers. Her tail is still healing and quite sensitive, however, the vets are happy with the progression. Amari’s voracious appetite shows no signs of diminishing and we’re starting to see her put on weight and body condition, which is a good sign. She’s very keen on inspecting anyone who approaches her enclosure, mostly checking if you’re bringing treats!

Amari & Lori FAQs
1. Lori’s eyesight. It appears to be improving. We suspect her loss of sight was associated with her head injury rather than her eyes themselves. Fingers crossed for further recovery.
2. Amari & Lori sharing enclosures or being housed next door to each other. This is not currently possible. Given Lori’s current condition she is not strong enough to be in a larger enclosure like Amari or the same style of enclosures next to her. Perhaps in the future, only time will tell.
3. Lori sharing an enclosure with other juvenile Macaques. This is also not currently possible given her condition. We do not want to risk any possible further injury or any undue psychological stress. Again, perhaps in the future, this may be possible. We will continue to assess as she progresses.
4. Visiting Amari & Lori. For the foreseeable future, both girls will remain in our nursery section which is not accessible to the public. This is to ensure they are receiving round the clock care from our dedicated nursery keeping staff. We will keep you posted if or when this changes.
Day to day they both continue to improve, grow stronger, and we are very happy with their progress thus far. Both girls are very sweet and you can see their relationship with the keepers evolving as they build trust and become familiar with them.
Don’t forget you can support their ongoing care by donating to ‘Care for Rescued Wildlife’ via the button below.

Amari’s blood samples confirmed heightened blood sugar levels and our vets are drawing up a treatment plan. She continues to eat all the food put in front of her and is gaining weight, all good signs!

Lori is also settling well, the wound on her tail healing slowly. She is moving and feeding herself on her own and gaining strength each day though she will need much more strength before she can join Amari in the larger enclosure.
For now, Lori is in a small enclosure so that she does not suffer any falls causing more damage while she heals from the many injuries to her spine and leg.
The girls are close and under constant supervision from nursery staff as they recover.
Let’s hope each day brings them a little more strength!
September 8-9, 2018 -Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center
Firstly we would sincerely like to say ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone who has donated to Amari & Lori’s care at Phnom Tamao. We truly appreciate your support.
Both girls continue to do well.
Lori continues to grow stronger every day and we continue to see small improvements in her condition daily, particularly her mobility. She is certainly a fighter!
Amari has settled in very well and is quite comfortable in her new abode. She’s got quite the appetite and we’re pleased to report is happily licking her plate clean at every meal!
Looking forward………it is highly likely that both Amari & Lori will continue to require ongoing care for the rest of their lives. It would appear as though they are unlikely to ever fully recover and as such we will continue to provide them refuge. Our goal at Wildlife Alliance is always releasing, and we are proud to say we are able to release approximately 80% of the animals that are donated to us or confiscated. However not all animals are fit for release back into the wild, due to either physical or psychological conditions, and Phnom Tamao provides those individuals with a safe place to call home. It is likely that both Amari & Lori will become permanent residents however we will be sure to keep you updated on any changes.
Thank you again for your support and also your understanding. We hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend and we’ll be back Monday with the next update!

Amari climbed the small structures in her enclosure and polished off all of hers quickly; a good sign showing she is comfortable in her new surrounds. Lori, though finding it difficult to feed herself, munched through her food with the help of her carers. We are happy with how the pair is showing good appetites! Hopefully, this will add to their strength, though they still have a long road to recovery.
September 6, 2018 -Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center
Our most recent update: Amari is settling into her new home well and a treatment plan for her is being assessed. Her baby, Lori, is still under close supervision from nursery staff to ensure she does not hurt herself any further. Both have healthy appetites however, at this stage, it is too early to tell if Lori will be able to fully recover from her spinal injuries and nerve damage. Our vets have been giving them the best care they can from the moment they arrived at Phnom Tamao.
September 5, 2018
The Wildlife Rapid Rescue Team (WRRT) traveled to the temples of Angkor to rescue a female macaque and her infant, known as Amari and Lori.
The monkeys were donated to the team by a concerned individual who had them under his care after noticing the pair’s poor health and removing them from the forest to care for them.
The WRRT have successfully taken the monkeys to Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center, where they will be assessed and treated by our veterinary staff. The youngster, Lori, is being provided treatment and is in critical condition. Amari is doing well and has already eaten up the fruits and vegetables provided in her new enclosure. They will remain under 24 hour supervision by our nursery staff.
If you would like to donate towards Amari and Lori’s care, please make a donation to “Care for Rescued Wildlife” and mention the Angkor monkeys in the comments.
Thank you for all you are doing for Lori! I was wondering if we could please see Lor’s tail and its condition – just a little video – no manipulation of it to hurt her! Thanks for any rersponse! Also, Could we see some information on and a picture of the veterinarians there? That would be great. My friends and I will try to donate every week and some every month. Love!
Wow… Did I just read these comments correctly.. you sad sad selfish group of people . Amazing how the dozen or so of you are more worried about the way you feel inside than you are worried for this baby monkey to no longer suffer and fight to be something she will never ever ever ever be.. a real monkey.. you all have doomed her to a miserable life in a tiny cage or enclosure and she will never be wild again.. or know what it’s like to have baby of her own, their sole purpose in life.. wow… Just amazing
The problem I seem to have with this is if Lori had been sent to this organization right after she was hit in the head from the angkor security, then they would have said the same thing that she likey won’t return to the group and she would have to stay in this sanctuary for the rest of her life. However, after healing up with the vet back in angkor wat. she was disabled but able to adapt and from what I can see she will be fairly close to the same position after recovering here. With that being said, I think she should be able to return to the wild where she can be with her family, and the same goes for Amari, although I know she will continue to get worse but again this is the wild and I think nature should take its course, I really think both would be ok, but then again I am no doctor or vet, I just see what I see and its my opinion.
Brian Sonego….Just STOP with this crap. You don’t own Lori or Amari either one, as matter fact, the Wildlife Alliance now owns them…thank God. The videographer’s are the reason Lori is worse now and people prob such as yourself who were crying for them to release her back to the wild.
If Lori had been taken to this rescue rehab sooner right after first hit to head then he wouldn’t be BLIND now!! You people only care about your own damn feelings more than you truly care about the care and well being of Lori.
You cannot command the rescue center to do anything. You’re not in control. It’s really not your business. You can check on them on this blog but that should be where it all ends. The vo’s need to stop filming these two and leave them and this rescue center alone.
Lol “I’m not a vet or anything but I think they can return to the wild”.
Thanks again for providing them a home, as well as ongoing care. This is far superior to their conditions at Ankgor Wat Temple. I rather expected this prognosis, unfortunately. Lori and Amari have strong wills, they’re determined ladies that will make the best of their situation. The good news is that Lori is young enough to adapt to the new life she’ll have with you. I’m sure Amari is adapting beautifully. I do have a question, though; is Amari indeed diabetic and if so does she require insulin or oral medication? If you can include the answers to those questions in your next update, it would be appreciated. Lori has a challenging road ahead of her as she will have disabilities. I know she’ll rise to the occasion, as will Amari. Life is a precious gift as long as they’re not living with pain and discomfort. Again, thanks for giving them a chance.
Wow’! Today’s update was fabulous. Thank U thank U. And we will continue to make our donations which is our pleasure. We thank you for anytime you let someone hold Lori. I know so many people have asked for that and that would be my group of friends’ only request. She responds more than is believable when even a female holds her up against her chest. Ear her chin – like a human baby. I know how silly this must sound but But I know will make a difference. Perhaps it could just be a tourist who offers. I thank you again on behalf of my many dozens of friends here in our fair city of Las Vegas.
I hate spell (try to read my mind) check just as I push send!
Please check Amari for sugar diabetes. She has shown all the signs of having it.
Lori please stop this nonsense. I told you many times old world monkeys such as macaque are not susceptible two diabetes that is a roll for New World monkeys. It’s not to say that they cannot become diabetic but this just not fit the symptoms. her eyesight issue is not symmetrical it is a symmetrical that ain’t no way fits a diabetes paradigm besides don’t you think that they have checked her just as a matter of routine blood work?
If she was diabetic to the point where it was making her have symptoms of this severity that you see when she ate all that fruit waiting for the wildlife rescue people to get there she would have went in a coma
Again repeat after me Old World monkeys are not very susceptible to diabetes it is New World monkeys such as the ones that live in South America and Central America that are prone to diabetes. Repeat that 100 times
Clown Wisper – you need to be schooled! Lori L Weir is absolutely CORRECT. Learn to do some Google research before trying to insult someone who knows what they are talking about, makes you look really DUMB. Keep your trolling off Willife Alliance website or t I will request you be banned. Now, for the schooling. Check website: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3440045/
**This is jut one of many articles published, I can give you many other links to check, better yet – go check them yourself !
Journal of Diabetes Sciences and Technology, published in J. Diabetes Sci Technol 2012 May, 6(3) 503-514, Authors H. James Harwood Jr. PhD, Paul Listrani D.M.V., Janice D Wager D.M.V, PhD. Abiut half way down page:
Naturally Occurring Diabetes in Nonhuman Primates
A number of NHP species develop obesity and diabetes, as reviewed previously.37,38 Commonly used species of Old World primates that develop spontaneous diabetes include macaques (Macaca sp.),37,38 vervets (Chlorocebus aethiops),39,40 baboons (Papio sp.),41–44 and mandrills (Mandrillus sphinx).45 New World monkeys that develop spontaneous diabetes include marmosets (Callithrix jacchus),46–48 squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus),49,50 capuchins (Cebus apella),49 and tamarins (Saquinus sp.).49 Chimpanzees (Pan troglyodytes) also develop spontaneous diabetes.51,52
Categorically, these NHPs all exhibit clinical features of diabetes, including obesity, IR, dyslipidemia, and pancreatic pathology that are similar to those observed in humans37,49,53 and are therefore excellent models for studying human T2DM. In many NHPs, T2DM is associated with increased age and body weight37,39,41,42,54–57 and is initially characterized by normal glucose tolerance that is followed by IR, a compensatory increase in insulin secretion, and deterioration of carbohydrate metabolism.37,56,58,59 As the disease progresses, NHPs develop IGT with a moderate elevation in fasting plasma glucose before becoming overtly hyperglycemic due to a decrease in pancreatic insulin secretion as normal islet architecture is replaced with islet-associated amyloid, resulting in the classic signs of diabetes.37 Type 1 diabetes mellitus has also been reported in some NHPs but at a much lower frequency,59 and GDM has been reported in several species,60,61 with complications similar to those observed in human GDM.59 As in humans, other atypical forms of diabetes also occur in NHPs.40
The most widely studied NHPs that develop spontaneous diabetes are the macaques. Spontaneous diabetes has been demonstrated in cynomolgus macaques (Macaca fascicularis),37,38,62 rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta),38,49,62 black Celebes macaques (Macaca nigra),53,63–65 bonnet macaques (Macaca radiata),66,67 Formosan rock macaques (Macaca cyclopis),49 and pig-tailed macaques (Macaca nemestrina),49 but the most extensive research regarding the development, characteristics, and comorbidities of diabetes in these animals has been conducted in cynomolgus and rhesus macaques.
Clown whisperer….you still preaching that shit cause they confirmed she does I repeat Amari DOES have diabetes!! hmmm….yeah.
All mammals are at risk for diabetes especially when fed pop and processed foods. Amari had all the signs and the vets have confirmed it. Probably why Lori ended up forging at an early age; mother’s milk was lacking. All mammals without the proper diet but instead load with junk foods and sugars are at risk for diabetes.
Lori, you were absolutely correct! Check my response to Clown Whisper. Old World Monkeys have been used to study spontaneous diabetes in non-human primates for years. In fact, the most widely studied NHP’s that develop spontaneous diabetes are the macaques! Let Clown Whisper go tell the D.M.V’s and PhD that wrote the article I quoted they should stop that nonsense.. Know we know why he doesn’t use his real name, but uses Clown Whisper…..
Well said, my fried ??
Thanks God, both are little .better now. My sweet baby Lori fighting again for her life and im happy because there have very good help and care. I wish so much to can see again that cute face of baby Lori walking, climbing and playing happily around her mom Amari.Love and blessings from France for all wonderful peoples which help and care by them daily.❤?
Its wonderful to see them eating. Both look really good. Thank you!
Thank you so very much for taking care of our baby Lori and her mom. This little monkey has stole the hearts of so many people. We love her so much. My God bless the work that y’all are doing. Thank you from Raleigh, Mississippi.
I am very happy that you’re going to say she will take care of these two ladies. Lori has become very special to a lot of people and Amari was the matriarch of a large Troop as you know in Angkor Wat area. I will be donating to help support their care very soon and hopefully I can get some of my friends too as well. I think that Lori is going to surprise you. She is a very resilient little girl and now that she’s in complete protected environment I think she’s going to heal very well. If she does not have brain damage I think she will make you very complete recovery.
Please take care of them for us and we will do our best to pay for their care. The more updates you give us the more money you will get that I know for sure
THANK YOUUUUUUUU!!!!!! ?????????????????????????????????????????????? PLEASE keep posting videos and pictures,,,,,the more you post, the more money will be sent I am sure of it! I love these girls so much,,,,I PRAY you can find someone that is willing to video and post on u-tube, you could have a sponsor button also on it! PLEASE HOLD LORI, she loves it like a human baby almost! ???????
Paula Collier….These two monkeys are not there to be pimped out for money, OK? If you want to donate money then do so but don’t tell these people to spend more time on Lori and/or Amari to make longer videos so you can be happy and so they can draw in more money. You do realize this is a big rescue center for ALL kinds of hurt and displaced animals….right? This is not just a 2 monkey show here. Although there’s plenty of people who watched these 2 on YouTube and are concerned but really they are in great hands now and really it’s out of your control. They do have to take care of a lot of animals at this rescue/rehab so may wanna stop trying to bribe them with money in exchange for more and longer videos.
Oh, also, does Amari and Lori get to be or see each other??????! ????
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING AMARI AND LORI THROUGH A VERY HARD TIME IN THEIR LIFE. AMARI LOOKED VERY SICK FOR A LONG TIME AND I THOUGHT THAT SHE HAD DIABETES BECAUSE I KNOW THE SYMPTOMS I AM A DIABETIC MYSELF. POOR LITTLE PRINCESS LORI SHE HAS BEEN THROUGH HELL AND BACK. SHE IS A “SOLDIER OF GOD” BECAUSE SHE HAS SERVIVED EVERYTHING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO HER AND MORE. I HAVE BEEN WATCHING LORI SINCE SHE WAS BORN TIL NOW AND SHE HAS A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART ?. I HAVE BEEN PRAYING FOR HER AND HER MOM THAT GOD WILL HEAL THEM AND GIVE THEM STRENGTH. LORI IS A FIGHTER AND SHE CAN MAKE IT THROUGH THIS BUT WE ALL NEED TO PRAY BECAUSE IF TWO OR MORE PEOPLE PRAY GOD WILL HEAR OUR PRAYS. ? . I WANT TO THANK SOCHHUN LEY FROM ANGKOR WAT FOR ALWAYS KEEPING AN EYE OUT FOR ALL THE MONKEYS AND HELPING THEM IF THE WHERE IN NEED. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS. ALSO, I WANT TO THANK THE PEOPLE WHO ARE TAKING CARE OF AMARI AND LORI RIGHT NOW AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS. PLEASE GOD GIVE YOU STRENGTH AND GOOD HEALTH TO ALL. ?.
Purple I know the power of God am Born Again 50 years and had 50 years of miracles in my life and in those I have prayed for Lori is obviously blind this could be caused by drugs as well as injury I became deaf side effects of fluid pills I left them off and my hearing came back God is all powerful ‘Ask anything in My Name and I will do it’ We will agree together as well as with anyone that wants to join
‘Dear Lord Jesus we know you are the Power of the Universe Please use your power to heal Lori – of injury and blindness and most of all – give her a happy life. We agree in the name of Lord Jesus Christ you will answer this prayer Amen’
Glad to hear they doing well, miss seeing them everyday x
Happy to read Amari is doing well. Lori is a fighter and you have seen it too. Please keep us updated I miss seeing the both of them, Thank you your care of both of them.
Lori’s will to survive is formidable. I bet she’s charmed your veterinarians and caretakers with her sweet personality. This was another encouraging update. Yes, she certainly is a fighter. Continued thanks to all of you. These girls are well-missed.
Well Anthony, seriously what part of wildlife rescue alliance’s title did you not read? No one in their right mind puts an animal down until they have exhausted all possibility! I have seen Lori at death’s door and then bounce back a couple of times now. And you! You would have her eurhilenized when she has had no margin of time to prove herself nor to be disproven. Go whine to your own sad dad friends. Mine believe in life.
Amazing how many want to rush to slaughter an animal hurt or sick but able to recover. Wonder how they would respond if it was them instead. Hope they have no pets or relatives they make thehealth care decisions
Thank you for the wonderful updates!! It means so much to be able to visit the sight and see Amari & Lori again!! It was beautiful to see little Lori starting to walk & eat on her own!! Her will to live is exceptional! She’s a little fighter, always has been! And Amari looks wonderful! It looks like she’s gained a little weight already! Thank you so much for taking in these two much-loved gals. Keep up the great job!!! ❤️❤️❤️
It is heartening to see Amari & Lori improving & doing better. Lori has had quite a time of it – everything from falling to getting bitten to a human whooping her on the side of her head, presumably for playing on his motorbike. Perhaps better known as being accident-prone, though not always of her doing or her fault per se.
At any rate Lori is healing & improving-to what extent that is possible is uncertain. And given the rescue centre’s prognosis – that Lori may never recover enough to be released back in the wild – she is getting the care necessary for her healing & survival.
Even better, Lori does not appear to be suffering as before.
The fact that Lori & Amari are being treated well, fed well & their needs are being well tended to is for so many of us (us = based on remarks/comments) is a big relief.
A big thank you to all of the people who have played a part (large & small) in their rescue & care. Even if they are unable to be released back into the wild, Lori & Amari are in the hands of experienced, caring people now. Both have a real good chance of surviving this ordeal & living out their lives without the natural threats of the wild. So there is that. It is unfortunate they have to be caged, but perhaps that, too, will change as they each progresses in time.
PS:
I hope y’all continue giving us updates on Lori & Amari.
Thank you again for what you do for not just for Lori & Amari, but for all the animals you rescue.
I was absolutely overcome to see Amari has already improved in looks meaning she is getting what she needs! And I could not believe Lori! I am so grateful! Thank you for who you are. I feel it is NOT just a job for those men in the pictures, and the world thanks you/them all. I feel the public are a bit more influenced to donate when they see the monks from this site here supposed to YouTube. But I know all this traffic on your webpage is difficult for you also. Just a thought – but post where you need too, Love!!
MY QUEENS!!!!!!!! ?????????? I JUST CAN’T GET ENOUGH! I wait every day for updates, and selfishly want longer videos.I am positive you are very busy, but, I can just about guarantee you if you can video longer and more, you WILL get even more donations. These girls are truly loved and utube celebrities! ????????
Thanks God my lovely girls doing better and its amazing how my sweet baby Lori start to eat herself and moving better with both legs.I know still very hard for her now to do all this but in time she will do well because she is a fighter daughter of Alpha Amari. All keepers doing a wonderful job there for helping them.May God bless you all and please keep update always possible about our beloved girls.Thank you so much❤?
Thankyou, thankyou THANKYOU!…You have made this old lady’s day. It’s hard to believe I could fall in love with 2 monkeys I’ve only seen on the web but as stated, Lori is so brave and I love Amari’s face though seems she still misses her troupe as she cries.
God Bless You All
Thank you so much for these awesome updates!! I am so happy to see Lori walking in a straight line!!! Gosh what a fighter!! Amari looks happy as well. I glad to see veggies in their diet. Please keep the updates coming! Love you Queen Amari and Princess Lori!!
SO HAPPY FOR YOUR UPDATE ON AMARI AND LORI. I AM PRAYING THEY WILL GET TO GO BACK WITH THEIR TROUPE. I AM HAPPY TO SEE ALL THE VEGETABLES FOR THEM. OUR LITTLE PRINCESS WARRIOR FIGHTS SO HARD AND I KNOW SHE WANTS TO GET BACK TO DOING HER “FREE STYLE’ TRICKS ON A ROPE. I LOVE THIS BABY. SHE REALLY DOES LIKE TO BE CUDDLED AND SHE LIKES TO CUDDLE. THANK YOU ALL FOR TAKING CARE OF THEM.
betty bucci….Amari and Lori will never be able to go back to their troop. To do so would be same as killing them as matter fact it’d be more humane to euthanize them than to send them back to their troop.
So for now they will stay at this rescue center for the rest of their lives and actually be taken care of because they can’t live on their own in the wild.
Thanks and you have a great day!
So happy for your updates about Amari & Lori. Your doing a great job. God bless you and thank you.
It was amazing to see the latest videos of Amari and Lori on 9/11/18. Thank you Wildlife Alliance staffers for making these updates possible.
Lori is the most resilient little monkey. It was great to see she is responding well to this level of care, nutrition, and safe handling. I am thrilled to see her sit calmly for a brief period and move around on her own. After all her traumatic injuries, she deserves this much needed love and physical affection.
The Wildlife Alliance is truly a miracle organization. I made a $50 donation at first. But, after seeing Amari and Lori doing so well at this facility, I will definitely commit to a monthly $$ sponsorship to help with their continued treatments and daily care. Lori is not steady, but I am optimistic that she will improve with more rehab time. Lori and Amari are safe in this treatment center. This makes me incredibly happy.
Jeanne, Colorado Cares
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR SHARING VIDEOS AND PHOTOS OF AMARI AND PRINCESS LORI EACH DAY. WE KNOW YOU ARE VERY BUSY WITH MANY OTHER ANIMALS. THIS MEANS SO VERY VERY MUCH TO ALL OF US WHO LOVE AMARI AND LORI SO MUCH AND WANT THEM TO RECOVER THE BEST THEY POSSIBLY CAN. THANK YOU FOR BEING THE BLESSING THEY NEED. MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL ABUNDANTLY.
Wonderful! I miss them every single day! I look on here all the time for ANY UPDATES! ????????
Thank you for doing such a wonderful job with these two lovely girls. God Bless you all.
I made my first donation today. I will increase it to help in other areas but right now I want Lori to get all the help she can get, even if it is surgery. She is my main concern because she is so little and so wonderfully sweet. I want her to have a life. I really love her so much because she doesn’t give up. She is an OVERCOMER. Just to see her run in the grass would lift our spirits. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR LORI AND AMARI. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
Can you PLEASE post more information and videos, it has been 3 days and I SO LOVE THEM and miss them. ????????????????????????????????????????????????
But they need and deserve the break at weekends Paula. I’m sure they will post when the time is right. The soul has gone out of Monkey Camp – just not the same eh?
On Sunday morning, I just watched a new video of Lori on one of the Youtube channels. It’s wonderful to see Lori out of her cage walking on the ground. She looks better to me, e.g. a little weight gain, her fur is fuller, and tail healing.
The feel and smell of soil and twigs is fantastic stimulation for her brain. From 6:00 on, I think I saw Lori focus her eyes and stare at a bug. Also, she walked a few steps straight forward. This is great progress for Lori, a.k.a. the little warrior princess. Thank you for taking such great care of Lori and Amari.
p.s. As a gardner, I have always said “digging in the dirt is so therapeutic.” Maybe scratching in the dirt will wake up more of Lori”s little brain cells. Hope so….
My God,poor sweet baby,i can’t believed that now Lori it’s blind too ??? I really feel broken now???
It’s good to know specifically what’s wrong with Lori and Amari. I tend to believe Lori’s blindness is irreversible, unfortunately. It’s a wonder she wasn’t rendered blind after her brain injuries this past May. From observation I suspected she may now be hearing impaired as well. I hope I’m wrong about that. Amari has settled into her new surroundings nicely. With your care and assistance, she will recover from injuries she sustained and will receive insulin/oral meds for her diabetes. I hope her kidneys are functioning normally. Your organization is truly a Godsend as these girls certainly couldn’t/wouldn’t have survived in the wild any longer. Lori in particular has a very long road of partial recovery ahead of her. Finally, her tail is beginning to heal. I’m sure you’ve tested Lori’s blood glucose as well and will mention if she too is diabetic. In this case “no news is good news.” I must thank you, again, for your assistance and willingness to permanently care for these two. No easy task. Lori had been regularly drinking Amari’s urine for the past months. Perhaps her sodium levels haven’t been healthy. I suspect Lori has diminished hearing as well. Again, I hope I’m wrong about that. I’m confident Lori’s body will gradually become stronger, save for her right arm/hand and her leg. Many blessings and kudos to all of you.
My poor Lori ???????????????????
I have made a donation of $100.00 for Lori’s medical care and I will continue to donate as much as I can to help her. Please help Baby Lori to restore her eyesights. Please don’t give up on her.
I read an article recently entitled Midnight’s Story – Refuge for Wildfire about this monkey, who fell and became blind due brain injury. But he recovered and his eyesights came back. Here is his story:
Midnight’s Story

Midnight was rescued from Los Arenales in March after he fell from electrical cables and hit his head. At our onsite clinic, Dr. Francisco Sánchez and Dr. Christine Nelson discovered that electrocution was the cause of Midnight’s fall. So in addition to treatment for blindness and muscle tremors caused by head trauma, Midnight was treated for electrical burns on his chest and tail. 2 weeks after treatment started, Midnight’s vision started to come back. 3-4 weeks after the fall, his muscle tremors stopped. After 10 weeks in our care, his burns healed and his eyesight came back completely! Midnight then spent and additional 3 months with us regaining strength in one of our outdoor enclosures. He was released back into the forest in early September.
Please treat Baby Lori to the best, poor baby. I am sure many people around the world that love Baby Lori will donate for her recovery.
Thank you.
Please please don’t put Lori in cage with Amari for long periods of time or at least till she shows much more improvement. She’s going to get hurt again for sure. She cannot hang on and mom is taking her as high as she can get in that cage. Lori will fall again and get hurt again. Please do not let the videographers who come to film these 2 monkeys talk you into putting them together. Lori was hurt real bad already and they nursed her back to health but she couldn’t hold on or climb and barely able to walk and they took her back to wild and mom Amari and this happened. They only care about filming these 2 monkeys for views. And most people who watch are crazy and will try to call the Cambodian government on your rescue if they see anything they don’t like. Do not let these people continue to film there and for sure don’t let the commentators on here influence you. They will try to and will say they’re making donations but pretty sure most don’t have a pot to piss in. Thanks.
Dear Deedee
Not all people lied about the donation. I genuinely donated for Baby Lori’s medical. I will continue to donate for Baby Lori’s medical and hope and pray and beg Wildlife Alliance helps send Baby Lori to a veterinarian who specialises in brain injury, who can assess her brain injury and try to restore her eyesights. I am a Buddhist and I pray everyday to Lord Buddha for Baby Lori. I long to see Baby Lori’s happy face again.
I hope people who love Baby Lori will continue to donate for Baby Lori’s medical. With the modern and advanced medical treatments now, lets hope Baby Lori will see again. The story about monkey Midnight, who was blinded due brain injury but he recovered and can see again, I pray that this will happen for Baby Lori.
I also hope my comments reaches the attention of Mr. Nick Marx, Wildlife Rescue Director.
Sir, Baby Lori is not just a baby monkey, but a very special baby monkey and loved by so many people. Please help her. Thank you very much.
Susan Bok….I’m very glad you are a buddhist but I am not and you can give all the money you want to help Lori and/or Amari that you want, but the videographers who are STILL there filming these 2 monkeys don’t really care about them as if they did they’d leave them alone. They are after all the reason she got hurt once again and is now blind. They need to butt out of this now and stop filming them like a bunch of crazed papparazzi going so far as to follow them to this rescue.
That has nothing to do with you giving them money….but bear in mind as well that YOU or anyone giving money to help these two monkeys does NOT mean you OWN them either. May wanna separate the two out in your head.
And BTW Lori is a sweet little monkey but she is NO BETTER than any of the 100’s or more of rescued animals in this sanctuary so just stop with this “Lori is our god” mentality….I”m beyond weirded out by this behavior.
Deedee …. my main intention is to help Baby Lori. She is so young and now blind for the rest of her life. It breaks my heart.
I really hope that Wildlife Alliance can get some experts to re examine her brain injury and treat her and hopefully she can see again. I am sure Wildlife Alliance love all the animals they saved.
These monkeys really should be OFF LIMITS to videographers who are coming there, filming them, and uploading videos to YouTube.
You all there at the rescue center have already said that Amari and Lori are both in quarantine and are allowed NO visitors….then why are these videographers allowed there? Aren’t they visitors? Why do they get to come in, interact with them, film them?? They are only filming these monkeys for views and money for themselves and not for Amari and Lori either.
Please tell them to stop exploiting these 2 monkeys and leave them alone!
I was delighted to come across this today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9EDPVycl6Q
Amazing how great the pair look after all your wonderful care and patience. Thank you again for all you’ve done. And while some people may not agree, I think that they will both have an amazing life free from the stress of being hounded by youtubers and the ‘created drama’ for youtube entertainment. It is so sad to see what is going on back at the Temple with their extended family; adults and babies are coming up missing (probably poachers as it has been said there are lots of traps in the forest) and deaths on the road because the feeding of wildlife along the shoulders of the road. It amazes me that people blame the drivers; of course it would be great for them to slow down; but NOT encourage animals to be on the road should be top priority of these ‘so called videographers’. Wouldn’t it be a perfect world if everyone could work together to solve this issue so that the primates can be safe and cared for and the youtubers still get their videos. :p
I was wondering if you can give a more recent update on Lori and Amari. Have they been together more. Is Lori still blind when can she be around other babies
To those of you that really care about all the monkeys at the Temple, and want to stop similar injuries from happening to other monkeys like what happened to Baby Lori. Robin Sexton, dee dee, I think if we wage a letter campaign to the Cambodian government to address the videographers luring the monkeys to the shoulders of the road by feeding them too close to traffic, creating situations to gain ‘views’ and money like when an alligator was brought into the park in a bag to watch the monkeys reaction when they open the bag, or feeding the monkeys beer or even so called ‘junk food’, video taping an alpha male poisoned and dying, taping injured baby monkeys 24/7, feeding the monkeys without regard to their hierarchy creating chaos within the troop, not to forget the obese and unhealthy monkeys, in general the exploitation of the monkeys in general. Including following Lori and Amari to Phnom Tamao to exploit them further. If the government receives so many letters from all over the world, it will bring disrepute to Angkor and Cambodia and if there is sufficient weight of public opinion against it, maybe the authorities could listen and do something about it. From what I understand there are no laws to protect not only wildlife but common household pets, maybe the time has come for the Cambodian government to pass laws protecting all animals. There has to be laws to govern these primates to keep them safe from ‘humans’. There was a successful letter campaign a while back to get an elephant named Sambo removed from walking around Phnom Penh, giving rides, day in day out, causing undue suffering and injury. The government received so many letters from all over the world asking them to retire Sambo. Eventually Sambo was retired to a sanctuary in NE Cambodia. To quote Robin Sexton ” Wouldn’t it be a perfect world if everyone could work together to solve this issue so that the primates can be safe an cared for and the youtubers still get their videos”. I think if thousands of letters from all over the world are sent to the Cambodian government, we might have a chance to change the way these animals are treated in Cambodia, or we can choose to ignore what is happening and let our words have no meaning and fall on deaf ears. Individually we may not be able to make a difference, but as the voice of the whole world – maybe we can make a difference. Mahatma Gandhi — ‘The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.’
Mary,
What’s your point? You just write names and addresses. I don’t get it at all! Do you?
Lora M – my point was to give the people who wanted to do something to try and make a difference in the monkeys treatment at the Temple the tools to actually do something, other than just talk about it in Comments. It was suggested by someone high up in Wildlife Alliance to wage this letter campaign. That the Cambodian government do not care about the long tailed macaques in Angkor. His words were “If you want to help, public opinion can do a great deal. if this kind of thing is bringing disrepute to Angkor and Cambodia and there is sufficient weight of public opinion against it I feel the authorities could listen and do something about it.” Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre was created in 1995 by the Forestry Administration (in other words the Cambodian Government) to care for rescued wildlife and it also serves as Cambodia’s national zoo. In 2001 Wildlife Alliance partnered with the Cambodian government to create WRRT to combat illegal wildlife trade. In other words Wildlife Alliance aides the Cambodian Government, they do not do anything that the government does not want them to do, they have to have the governments approval. So your statement the Wildlife Alliance is the advocates is incorrect. Their focus is on illegal wildlife trade, rehabilitation and release, animal husbandry for specie extinction, Wildlife Alliance assist the Royal Government of Cambodia in strengthening Protected areas, rehabilitating wildlife confiscated during operations conducted while combating illegal wildlife trade and releasing back into the protected areas. It would not have been suggested to me to start a letter campaign if Wildlife Alliance could do something to help the long tailed macaques in Angkor. So that was what I was doing, trying to get people to send a letter (or letters) to the Cambodian government asking that the videographers be held accountable for their mistreatment and abuse of the monkeys at Angkor.
It was determined after aspara authorities investigated that the alpha male you’re referring to had died of rabies. Be careful with your words. You may have good intentions but the facts need to be on point. The wildlife alliance already confirmed that Lori & Amari were referred to them appropriately. I think you are part of the problem unless you have ALL the facts. Otherwise you just confuse and complicate the REAL ISSUES. Wildlife alliance will always do the right think. THEY are the advocates.
Lora M – if your statement is even true that Apsara autjhorities investigated King Brutus’s death and ruled it anything has not been proven. So are you the only one that was privy to that tid bit of info, some of the vo’s were saying the man that poisoned King Brutus was associated with Apsara, so if that is the case, of course Apsara Authorities are going to try an say it was something other than a poisoning. In all honesty, we have no way of knowing who is telling the truth. And I never said that Wildlife Alliance was not contacted appropriately and that Lori and Amari was donated to them. Those are your words, not mine. I believe they were contacted because the vo’s watched and taped Lori falling off a table because she was so drugged up she could not sit up without falling and flopping all over the table, they say what damage they did to her, that is why Wildlife Alliance was contacted. See for yourself, turn up the volumn and listen, you can hear and see exactly when Lori fell from the table, her little body twisted and contorted when they lyed her bck on the tble. Please, watch the whole video and tell me they did not do that to her.
https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=baby+lori+nearly+fall+loosing+sense&view=detail&mid=766799F063542E32BAEB766799F063542E32BAEB&FORM=VIRE
I choose not to believe everything that Apsara Authorities supposedly said, after all it was an Apsara guard that hit Lori in the head in the first place. Plus I have already forwarded that video and still shots taken from when Lori was hit, showing the Apsara guard’s blue shirt and patch as well as the yellow radio clipped on his belt in back, to someone that is going to approach Apsara Authority about it. Lori deserves some justice for what was done to her.
So the problem is the people that sit and do nothing except make comments in the comment section, not the people that are actually trying to make a difference and help the long tailed macaques at Angkor in a productive manner. And it sounds like you are the one that does not have all the facts, assuming things rather that researching and contacting people that could possibly do something. Maybe try doing something constructive to actually help, rather sitting and being preachy, telling everyone else that they are the problem.

Thank you Mary I have been teaching for an agency to contact.
This morning Achap, the alpha of the Amari group, showed up with another 3 serious wounds to his face and neck. He already had a head wound inflicted a week ago.
I believe the VO’s are orchestrating a grand opera involving repeated wounds to Achap and eventually his death. This is too serious to wait till the government responds, there needs to be a rapid response to save the monkeys being abused.
I feel powerless to do anything what should I do. I don’t know how to get through to these Alliance people.
That is great news that you all would like to reunite them. Lori should be with her mother because I do not think Amari will be around for a long time. I am so happy that you took both of them but especially Lori. I have mixed feelings but I would rather see Lori with your organization than back in the wild where she will suffer. Oh, by the way, before you reunite them can you please give Amari a breast lift? (Just making a joke). Poor thing, her breast look so bad. Thank you so much and have a wonderful day.
Thank you so much for keeping us posted. We want to get them directly from you while you have the time. Maybe down the line you can let us know the big milestones for the girls! It will keep a great deal of activity on your website and I know that will result in more donations to help you continue this great work! Rumors abound and we don’t want to support any media who did not comply with your generosity allowing them to film or follow your rules. It’s been said that this had occurred and you will no longer allow them to film.
My wish is to support the videographers who have genuine motives. I’m certain that the one who contacted you and who has been genuine in his care & concern for these Angkor monkeys for years. His name is Ley Socchun. For now he’s the one I will support. There’s a monk who films too, Nature Monkey who has been sincere as well. Hope others will follow. But I really hope folks act on facts and not rumor which is why I’m posting this here to allow for correction!
?❤️???? to the Wildlife Alliance!
Hey to my wonderful friends with positive and open hearts! Maybe someday we can put together a group to visit by way of “book a tour”. It wouldn’t be any fun doing it alone or with anyone who isn’t so into our incredible cousins! There are a few of you I’d love to meet in person… Happy Holidays12342468, MoonmaidenNYC(vivi), Quarky chick, Bgillie, Bill24799, bellesmom2012, splashy puddle….and other wonder smart people I’ve come to respect! A field trip to Phnom Tamao zoo and the temple would be so damn cool!!! ❤️

I believe the monkeys at Angkor Wat temple are being deliberately hurt. You must act ASAP
I believe that this VO business has gotten so out of hand that some agency needs to step in. There are many complains over the last 4 months but nothing has been done. There is not even an answer to address complaints. .
Why should they put a stop to what has been a boon in the local economy? Because the abuse of these indigenous populations of monkeys looks bad for Cambodia and may have more far reaching effect than anticipated.
It also looks bad for the supposed conservation groups who have a strong presence in the area.
It looks bad politically for a government who professes to support conservation.
It looks bad when the complaints of so many people outside of Cambodia are not addressed which appears to , puts a lie to commitment to stop animal cruelty .
The overarching reason is that these innocent creatures are being abused.
Please let me know what I can do. If it is money to support policing at the Temple area I will give.
Pease respond. It its so very upsetting.
I don’t know how long it takes for the moderator to respond to post but this an an emergency. One monkey at Angkor Wat is being hurt daily. He is Achap, the alpha of the Amari group. he has had 2 terrible wounds in 3 days plus another 2 weeks ago. The VO are slowly killing him.
For Gods sake, just take a ride there and investigate. Please protect Achap till he recovers.
