A wild chase took place in the Cardamoms. Moving quickly on intel from the network, rangers from Steung Proat station ambushed a wildlife trafficker who had stored tons of bushmeat in his house and was loading it onto his Dalim motorbike. As soon as the man sped off for the Vietnamese border, our rangers chased him in a wild pursuit over 4 km through the sugar plantation dirt roads toward the highway.
In a final attempt to escape, the man threw the bushmeat off his bike upon reaching the highway and sped off to avoid being arrested and heavily fined. The rangers were led by Deputy Chief Ranger Heung Heut, who identified meat of threatened sambar deer (rusa unicolor), mouse deer (tragulus kanchi), and palm civets (paradoxurus hermaphroditus).
