Wildlife Alliance’s Green Peafowl Station (Sre Ambel) conducted another successful deep forest patrol. The team worked three nights and four days in the heart of Cardamom Mountains and confiscated thirteen illegal chainsaws used for illegal logging, a homemade gun used for illegal hunting and dismantled two hunting camps.

Homemade guns are popular among poachers in Cambodia. They are used for illegal hunting and sometimes against our rangers.

The Green Peafowl Station (Sre Ambel) is strategically located on a river near National Road 48 to intercept illegal timber being transported via boat from the Cardamom Mountains to the main road. Because the station is located directly on the river, loggers have begun transporting timber from the forest to the road through the surrounding communities. The station is located in a valley with many communities, so the rangers not only intercept transported timber but are also bombarded with local illegal land grabbing and logging.

Our forest rangers work tirelessly to protect some of the world’s most endangered animals in one of Southeast Asia’s last great rainforests.
