International Tiger Day

Sponsored By: Wildlife Alliance
When and Where: Phnom Penh, Cambodia, September 25th 2007
Activity: Kouprey Express celebrates International Tiger Day

To celebrate International Tiger Day this year, the Kouprey Express visited an orphanage in Phnom Penh where it spent the day entertaining orphans and vulnerable children with tiger lessons and fun activities.

The day kicked off with the children learning about the life of a tiger with Tiger Lessons, a compilation of tiger facts and games intended to teach children about tiger conservation and inspire a feeling of solidarity with tigers. After their tiger lessons, the kids played environmental conservation games and produced tiger conservation art based on their new knowledge of tigers.

The kids were encouraged to draw their own picture of a tiger, which they could keep for themselves or give to a friend. Also, for the first time ever, the children engaged in printmaking, printing their own unique tiger designs on paper. Face-painting put a tiger smile on many a face, as the kids had their faces painted like tigers and, in turn, painted the faces of their friends.
