Russian partner Phoenix Fund wins prestigious award for Amur tigers and leopards
Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 11:59AM Wildlife Alliance’s partner, Phoenix Fund, has been awarded a prestigious grant of £60,000 from the BBC Wildlife Conservation Fund (BBCCF) to further its work in partnership with the Whitley Fund for Nature to protect Amur tigers and Amur leopards in Russia. It is estimated that only 450 Amur tigers and 35 Amur leopards remain in the wild. They are threatened by habitat destruction and poaching for their luxurious pelts and for body parts used in Chinese traditional medicines.
