Wildlife Alliance Volunteers Open New Community Center for Former Slash-and-Burn Farmers and Their Families
Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 11:59AM Farmers enrolled in Wildlife Alliance’s Community Agriculture Development Program have made the transition from destructive subsistence farming in the forest to profitable, sustainable agriculture. But as they move towards complete independence from outside assistance, they need to forge a strong sense of community that will carry them forward together in the years to come. With that in mind, Wildlife Alliance volunteers have recently built and opened a new Community Center at our agricultural village, offering locals a public space to socialize and learn new skills.
